A big collection of our favorite vocal condenser mics

The amazing condenser microphones are the best type of microphone for recording pretty much any source you need, mainly due to it’s sensitivity in being able to pickup very fine detail of what is directed at it, as well as the power it can provide when it comes to flexibility of sound and how we want to shape our recordings (and performances). Although most condensers out there are great for vocals, we tried to pin-point some of our favorites for those needing to focus on one sound source — the voice! Below is in our opinion a list of the best vocal condenser microphones in the market today.

The Best Vocal Condenser Microphones

Warm Audio WA-47

A fan favorite when it comes to condenser vocal microphones

Up first, we have a versatile condenser microphone for vocals with nine polar patterns including cardioid, omni and figure 8. Its custom 47-style k47 capsule gives this microphone its warm sound that many purchase it for, being that the tube skeleton inside gives us that vintage audio transmission.

Regarding specs, it has a dynamic range of 130 dBA, sensitivity of 140 dB, frequency range of 20 Hz – 20 kHz, impedance of 200 Ohms and S/N ratio of 82 dBA. It comes with a shock mount, an IEC power cable and a presentable wooden box. The Warm Audio WA-47 is a large diaphragm tube condenser microphone with huge and bold sound, and definitely one of our favorites for recording vocals.

Rode NTK

A condenser mic for vocals we've recommended countless times

This microphone is designed for studio professionals for recording purposes, and is a vocal condenser mic we’ve used ourselves countless times for the past decade. We’ve always been a fan of this vocal condenser because of it’s clean and accurate sound, along with great long-term stability since the build is so rugged. A very warm, almost old-school feel to the sound.

If you’re concerned with specifications, it has a sensitivity of 158dB, impedance of 200 Ohms, a frequency response of 20 Hz – 20 kHz and S/N of 82dBA. It comes with 30’ multicore cable, a power supply, an M2 Stand mount, 3/8” -5/8” thread adapter, a carry case and 10-year extended warranty when you register this microphone. The Rode NTK is another dynamic, tube condenser microphone with very low noise, a natural and rich sound along with a bit of a touch of vintage feel as well.

Lauten Audio LA-320

A beautiful vocal condenser microphone

The Lauten Audio LA-320 is a professional and versatile cardioid tube condenser microphone with large diaphragm. It’s known for being built with high end components like a custom output transformer and polypropylene capacitors. It features dual triode vacuum tube, 120 Hz low cut and 12kHz high cut filters and a 1” gold sputtered dual diaphragm in k67-style design.

The overall sound here is key and great for vocals as it’s sensitivity really helps dial in those details and clarity. The Lauten Audio LA-320 has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz, sensitivity of 130dB, impedance of 200 Ohms and self-noise of 17dBA. It comes with a power supply and a 1-year limited warranty.

Neumann KMS 105

We wanted to recommend at least one condenser stage mic for vocals

The KMS 105 is a professional, studio quality supercardioid condenser handheld microphone for vocals. This mic has a clear sound with a hint of treble lift, very good resolution, extended frequency response and accurate transient detail.

The Neumann KMS 105 features an elastic shock mounted super cardioid capsule with three metal basket layers for excellent feedback rejection and high effective foam free pop filter. It includes a stand clamp and a pouch. Numbers wise, we have a frequency response of 20 Hz – 20 kHz, sensitivity of 150 dB, impedance of 50 Ohms and S/N of 76 dBA.

Audio-Technica AT2020

A famous condenser mic for vocals at this point in time

The Audio Technica AT2020 is a versatile side-address cardioid condenser microphone, another one of our favorite mics we’ve used quite frequently, especially if you’re needing a condenser vocal mic that’s in the lower budget-range (we understand some of these can get up there).

Just a flat out clear condenser here, all for a couple hundred bucks. It has a custom designed low-mass diaphragm for superior transient response and extended frequency response. It features high SPL handling and wide dynamic range. Of course, has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20 kHz, dynamic range of 124dB, sensitivity of 144dB, impedance of 100 Ohms and S/N of 74dB. Lastly we have a package coming with a shock mount, a 5/8” -27 to 3/8” – 16 threaded adapter and a pouch.

AKG C414

Highly rated among musicians for years

AKG C414 is an XLS multipattern condenser microphone with large diaphragm with a price tag in the higher range. It features nine polar patterns: 5 main patterns and 4 in between patterns, which can be useful for studios who need some more flexibility. This makes AKG C414 XLS a versatile microphone from broadcasting, recording, live performance and great for vocals.

This vocal condenser mic has neutral sound. It has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz, impedance of 200 Ohms, sensitivity of 140dB, S/N of 88dBA and low cut filters: 40Hz, 80Hz and 160Hz. The AKG C414 XLS comes with a stand mount, a shock mount, a pop screen, a windscreen and a carry case.

Samson G-Track Pro

The best condenser microphone for vocals if you want a higher-end USB mic

Samson G-Track is a USB super cardioid condenser microphone with built-in audio interface and mixer for professional recording and a large 19mm diaphragm. It features simultaneous stereo input and gain control as well as switchable stereo, mono and computer monitoring via headphone output. We figured we’d at least recommend one USB mic in this guide considering they’re technically ‘condenser microphones’.

The Samson G-Track Pro has a frequency response of 20Hz – 16kHz, sensitivity of 120dB, instrument input impedance of 1M Ohms, bit depth of 16 or 24-bit and sample rate of up to 96kHz. The sample rate and audio resolution is what really impresses us here. It’s one of the highest (thus far) we’ve seen with USB mics, giving it a good shot at competing with at least a few true condensers out there. Its compatible with any DAW software program. It comes with a desktop microphone stand, a mic clip and complete cable set.

Our list of the best wireless mics under 200 dollars

Having no cables attached, wireless microphones operate through built-in battery-operated radio transmitters that convey the audio signal from the microphone by radio waves to a nearby receiver unit, which then retrieves the audio for everybody else’s ears. It is very convenient and used specially by live performers, broadcasters, etc. We’ll admit, wireless microphones in general can get a bit hefty in price, since the technology used in the higher-end models isn’t cheap at all. This is one of the lowest ranges we’ll go in regards to price in this category, so in this article are going to talk about our favorite picks as the best wireless microphones under $200.

The Best Wireless Microphone Systems for Under $200

Rode Wireless GO

Our favorite wireless solution for $200 or less

Here’s a newer-age type of solution to a ‘wireless microphone’, although it isn’t completely traditional when it comes to just having a handheld mic and a transmitter in the box. There is actually a built-in condenser in this thing, and if you’re able to see fit for it’s use can be very efficient (think filmmakers, presenters, vloggers, or even those in the news industry).

The battery has a battery saver mode ensuring that the battery will not be drained when not in use. This wireless microphone system can achieve up to 70 meters of range when it is in direct line of sight. Its frequency range is 2.4 GHz, sensitivity is 100 dB, frequency response is 50Hz – 20kHz, self-noise is 21.8 dB, dynamic range is 100dBA. The Rode Wireless Go is a compact condenser omnidirectional wireless microphone system with rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that runs up to seven hours after a full charge.

Behringer ULM300MIC

Just another option in case the others haven't piqued your interest

Here’s one of our favorite wireless microphones under $200 if you needed that traditional one handheld microphone alongside a legit transmitter. It features combined volume buttons on the microphone transmitter for ease of adjustment when on stage, a handy mute function, warning indicator on the transmitter showing when it’s time to change the batteries, front panel LED on the receiver showing information about the signal strength and its presence, automatic pairing, microphone transmitter and a single-channel receiver. It has a frequency range of 2.4 GHz, operating range of 200 feet and a battery life of 24 hours. The Behringer ULM300MIC is another professional wireless dynamic microphone system under $200 the reviews will definitely back up.

Samson Concert 88x

A high-quality wireless handheld mic by Samson

The Samson Concert 88x is a headset wireless omnidirectional condenser microphone system for just under $200 featuring clear professional grade audio, a reliable operation via UHF band, tone key and auto mute functions that eliminate background noise, one touch scanning to search for available channels and infrared set that locks the transmitter and receiver together on the selected channel. Samson Concert 88x has a system frequency response of 50 Hz – 15 kHz, frequency range of 300 feet, sensitivity of 140 dB, LED display and a battery life of up to 8 hours when fully charged.

Saramonic Blink 500 B1

A different spin to wireless mics, but it may be what you're looking for

Here’s another different spin to what some may think is the ‘best wireless microphone system under $200’, and can be very useful for those who need something discreet and out of the way when you’re using it. The clip-on dual channel receiver here can be attached to a camera or paired with a mobile device. The user can either utilize the built-in mic in the clip-on transmitter or the lavalier mic that comes in the box.

The Blink 500 B1 has a frequency response of 20 Hz – 16 kHz, frequency range of 50 Hz – 18 kHz, operating range of 98 feet, sensitivity of 120 dB, frequency of 2.4 GHz and a built-in lithium ion battery that runs up to 5 hours on a full charge. All in all, the Saramonic Blink 500 B1 is an ultracompact wireless clip-on omnidirectional microphone system with high quality sound.

Behringer Ultralink ULM202USB

A great pick if you need two handheld wireless mics for under $200

The Behringer Ultralink ULM202USB is another great wireless dynamic microphone system but this time with two hand-held microphone transmitters and one 2.4 GHz USB receiver, all in the box for less than $200. It has a frequency response of 20Hz – 12kHz, operating range of 390 feet and an extended 2 x AA battery life of between 24-30 hours provided they are alkaline.

It’s good to note that there are lot of websites that contradict themselves when it comes to battery life by stating that it is 8 hours for each mic, but then, further down their website, they state that it is 30 hours. It will most likely the 8 hours so keep that in mind. This system features automatic pairing, panic mute feature, volume up and down buttons, battery level indicator. It’s great for karaoke, multiple performers in lower-budget performances, speakers, and more.

Samson GO Mic Mobile

One of the best wireless microphones under $200

Look into this wireless mic under $200 due to it’s smart phone compatibility without any type of middle-man. With this feature, the user can utilize their smartphone to capture pro-level video with high definition audio. This system has two microphone transmitter configurations which are the Q8 dynamic and the LM8 omnidirectional.

This system has a frequency response of 10Hz – 22kHz, frequency range of 2.4 GHz, operating range of 100 feet and the receiver has a rechargeable battery life of up to 13 hours. The Samson Go Mic Mobile is the first professional handheld microphone system that connects to smartphones with no interface or adaptor with a price tag of just under $200, great for those who don’t need that regular handheld mic and transmitter but instead want to go full-on mobile.

Sennheiser XSW-D

A great wireless vocal set but may come at more of a cost

We have this one listed last because the price can go either way — we’ve seen it listed pretty randomly so we didn’t want to mislead in case the stores out there decided to up the price again. If it is indeed at an affordable price-tag for you, this one is amazing.

The Sennheiser XSW-D is a vocal set including XS 1 cardioid dynamic vocal microphone, mic clip, XSW-D female XLR transmitter, XSW-D male XLR receiver and USB-A to USB-C charging cable. This system features 2.4 GHz digital transmission, up to 5 hours of battery life on a single charge, 250 feet range in optical conditions, mute option from either transmitter or receiver, choice of different connector types, and the option to switch between multiple transmitters linked to one receiver. It’s by far one of the best wireless microphones under $200 if it is indeed priced there, hence our hesitance due to it being so sporadic.

As we venture into the big world of wireless microphones, today we wanted to focus on one of the most common ‘types’ — the handheld wireless mic. We tried to get a balance in our list below. Let’s get into the best handheld wireless microphones.

Wireless microphones are known for having frequency issues; in other words, there are many handheld microphones that are unreliable. But as the wireless technology advances, a lot of wireless microphones are getting more reliable. No matter what, before buying one, check for frequency compatibility as you may have other wireless systems in your setup.

In this article you will find a variety of some of the best professional wireless microphones that are reliable and have different price range, but for the money you are paying, you are getting more quality than the value. The Best Microphone for Zoom Meetings

$

Our list of the best Zoom meeting microphones

Buying a new microphone for your Zoom meetings is appearing to seem like a smart investment as this year continues to move along. If you’re like us and so many people on planet Earth, we’ve spent most of our time this year at home either working, going to school or merely interacting with our friends, loved ones and communities online. That built-in mic into your computer, laptop let alone phone isn’t going to cut it anymore. In particular with these meetings, many of us use the program Zoom. Since we’re microphone experts and have many mics we use for Zoom meetings specifically, we wanted to recommend you all a list of our favorites to upgrade that centerpiece of our lives right now.

Best Zoom Microphones List

  1. Rode NT-USB (Computers)
  2. Samson Go Mic (Computers, especially laptops and those who travel)
  3. Shure MV5 (Everything — Computers, iOS, and Android devices)
  4. Samson G-Track Pro USB (Computers)
  5. Zoom iQ6 (Direct mounting to iPhones and iPads)
  6. Apogee MiC PLUS (iPhones, iPad, Computers)
  7. Beyerdynamic Phonum (Hands-free for computers and phones)

Before we get into our information about the picks, want to give you some important info on Zoom meeting microphones first. In our following list, we’ll switch it up when it comes to budget (we recommend at least $50-$100, but there are some more expensive models, too) and “microphone types” to give you some options. But right off the bat, we’re going to highly recommend a USB microphone for the majority of readers. They’re extremely easy to use — just plug-n-play them into your computer or laptop and you’re good to go. You’ll have to switch the ‘Zoom mic settings’ to the ‘USB device’ (if you need help, leave us a comment or click the link we just provided for help). Also keep in mind that USB mics work regardless of computer or operating system type, so it won’t matter if you’re on Windows or Mac.

Lastly, we understand that some of you also attend your Zoom meetings on your smart device or phone. We have articles that can help with this specifically such as best smartphone mic, best iOS mic or even Android microphone guides. Otherwise, we provided a few of our favorite smart device mics for Zoom meetings in this list below as well.

The Best Microphones for Zoom Meetings

Rode NT-USB

Our favorite USB microphone for Zoom meetings

Great for: All computers

Up first, we have a traditional USB microphone that is going to in our opinion be suitable for many readers out there who need a microphone that can mount on a surface and sit right beside you as you conduct your Zoom call (comes with a built-in mic stand mount, pop filter, tripod base, USB cable, and case for carrying). Rode is one of our favorite mic brands out there and they’ve been legends for nearly 4 decades. They’re typically known for their studio microphones in the musician world but once they entered the USB game here they did not disappoint.

In regards to features and specs, most notably with this purchase is a high-end A/D conversion internally to give us a 16-bit with 48 kHz sample rate (standard for USB mics). There is also a convenient knob on the front panel to control headphone volume (with a separate jack), as well as a ‘monitoring knob’ to control hearing yourself in the mic. This is definitely higher-end USB mic as it’s intentions are for musicians and singers (hence the pop filter and what not), but with that mind, the Rode NT-USB helps us know we’re really getting top notch audio quality and no pesky sibilance (the most important part of Zoom meeting mics, right?).

If you want to save some money, you can also look into their Rode NT-USB Mini for cheaper (just around $100ish retail).

Samson Go Mic

A great cheap USB mic for Zoom meetings especially if you travel

Works with: All computers, especially laptops (a plus if you travel)

Let’s take a step down for a moment when to comes to budget for a Zoom microphone. We’ve been recommending the Go Mic for just about 5 years now in our guides for quite a few reasons. For one, the compact size is a huge plus for those who travel or want something a bit less intrusive next to them while they speak in their online conferences. It’s about the size of a wallet so you can keep it in your laptop bag, purse or even pocket for some. The price is also very reasonable at around the $50 retail (it will fluctuate at times).

Even more impressive is an integrated clip design that actually lets you clip the mic literally onto your laptop screen. It essentially goes right above the little webcam camera at the top of the screen (for most people). This for us is huge as it sits right in front of us out of the way and directed at where we’re speaking at in the first place. It has a few pickup patterns as well, with cardioid capturing what’s in front of the mic, or if i you need to capture everything around you for whatever reason, the Omni pattern can allow for that. The Samson Go Mic is just an all-around solid microphone for Zoom meetings, especially if you’re on a laptop, travel, or want a smaller and convenient solution for your upgrade.

Shure MV5

A very versatile dynamic microphone for Zoom meetings

Great for: All smart devices/computers — Mac, iOS, Windows, Android

As we continue our list of Zoom meeting microphones, here’s one of our favorite versatile mics out there regardless of intended use. This one spans across many platforms and devices — any computer, as well as any smart device. You can zoom all over. It comes with an included desktop stand, has a clear sound output, and has some control on the unit itself for volume as well. This Zoom mic is also great for traveling as it’s quite small and can also be disassembled if you need to make some room or keep it safe in a bag or suitcase.

This is the microphone we recommend many, especially if they’re on an Android device and want a great solution as compared to that little stock mic in there. For cables, the box actually comes with both a Micro-B to USB cable, as well as a Micro-B to Lightning cable. We love the Shure MV5 since it’s so suitable to so many different readers out there in the world.

Samson G-Track Pro USB

Our favorite USB mic ever due to it's sound quality

Applications: All computers

Here’s one of our favorite USB microphones of all time, and this may be a bit overkill for some of you just doing Zoom, but you never know if you want the best of the best. It has the best audio quality in a USB microphone we’ve seen so far, with 24-bit A/D conversion and a 96 kHz sample rate (just about double of many USB microphones out there, although the A/D conversion is more important, which here has 1/3 more than most). We also have some controls on the mic itself for volume and monitoring, and the built-in stand is very neat as well.

This one is also definitely geared towards musicians since it’s so meticulous in the internal build, but we can’t not recommend this one because we know at least a few of you take a liking to it. Perhaps you also want to get in to podcasting, gaming or making some music with it as well? Now is the time to get that passion going! Look into the Samson G-Track Pro if you aren’t messing around.

Zoom iQ6

A mountable microphone for Zoom meetings for your iOS devices

Great for: Mounting onto iPhones and iPads

Yes, different brand but same name (not intended!). The original ‘Zoom’ brand is quite legendary when it comes to wireless and portable microphone and other recording devices. This one is no different and is one of our favorite microphones for Zoom meetings if you have an iPhone or iPad and want to mount the microphone on the actual device itself. Since it mounts where you charger port goes and need to have the device actually face you while it stands, we know many who do so by flipping the screen settings in the smart device to allow you to stand it all up and speak that way.

In regards to some specs with the Zoom iQ6, we have

Apogee MiC PLUS

A higher-end microphone for Zoom conferences

Works with: iPhones, iPad, All Computers

If the previous picks weren’t hitting for you and you’ve made it this far, here’s another higher-end Zoom meeting microphone but this one is also extremely versatile in being compatible with just about any device Zoom works on (except Android, check out the previous MV5 for that). When the original Apogee MiC was first introduced into the mic game, we reviewed it and eventually had it in basically every guide we made for various applications.

The quality they packed into these things were very impressive, and it was one of the first higher-end microphones to work with iOS devices at all. The Apogee MiC Plus is an upgrade of that game changer and it includes higher-end internal circuitry called PureDIGITAL connection, and a whopping 24-bit/96 kHz audio resolution and sample rate. The capsule inside is a premium cardiod capsule (this is even viable for some home studios who sing and record instruments), some headphones and volume control on the mic, as well as included tripod and mic stand mount. You’re good to go out of the box with this one. That price is high, but the quality is very worth it if you’re bold.

Beyerdynamic Phonum

A different approach to a Zoom microphone

Use: Those who want something hands free for computers and phones

Last but not least, we’ll throw this in here in case you’ve made it all the down this guide here. As a microphone for Zoom meetings that doesn’t really fit the build of the others, hear us out first. Use this particular device if you want an easy shape and size to place near you or even on top of your laptop or under your computer screen.

The Beyerdynamic Phonum is great for conference calls with multiple people in case you’re at a company where many of you partake in the Zoom meeting, or perhaps you and a friend for digital happy hour. The mic picks up 360 degree voice transmission and it most impressively can pick up an entire room, so you don’t need to make sure everybody is crowded near the computer (or even yourself, perhaps you want to walk around or demonstrate something in the room?).
